これは北野武の弟子を目指し日本に移ったカナダの映画製作者レノックスの物語。友人の死、拒絶と継続、生きることに感じる情熱、チワワの物語。

A bit about “the Weight”

“People often ask me what ‘the Weight’ is about, but the Weight doesn’t have just one theme.”
the Weight is a film with many themes, but most notably is about passion and striving for dreams, even if your capabilities are limited and the outcome seems bleak.
“I have put myself out to be judged, in the hope of finding acceptance. The first rule of writing fiction, is it has to be believable. But life is different, and in making ‘the Weight’ I have realized that sometimes the story behind the making of the story is more significant.”

「よく『ウェイト』のテーマのついて聞かれるが、『ウェイト』は1つのテーマだけを持つわけではない。」
ウェイトは、多くのテーマによって出来ている映画であるが、中でも注目すべき所は、情熱と夢を追いかける努力の事。能力が限られていて、結果が厳しいようであったとしても、夢を叶える努力を続けることを一番に掲げるテーマ。
「受け止めてほしいのと、ジャッジしてほしい為にと、自分自身をさらけ出してこの世に見せた。フィクションを書くルールは、まず現実にも通じるストーリーを書くこと。しかし、人生にはありえない、信じられない出来事もある。『ウェイト』を作る過程で気づいたのが、物語を作る背景にある物語が、物語自体より重要な時もあるということ。」

Who is Lucas “Lennox” Saito

Born in America raised in Canada, Lennox spent his early life moving and living with his Father. While working as everything from a window cleaner, to carpenter, to actor, or DJ, being a storyteller has always been Lennox’s ultimate goal.
He moved to Japan to follow a dream, to become the disciple of legendary filmmaker Takeshi Kitano.

アメリカで生まれカナダで育ったレノックスは、人生の初期には父と暮らして何回も引っ越ししてきた。高層ビルの窓掃除屋、大工、俳優、DJの仕事もしてきたが、ストーリーテラーになることを究極のゴールに夢見てきたレノックス。
夢を現実させる一環として、映画監督のレジェンド北野武の弟子になることを目指して日本へ引っ越してきた。
